Thank you Angela. I write this with tears falling, running down my cheeks. As I began to read this wondered how I could support this ministry. My best friend is an ELCA night Chaplain at Rochester Mayo. She did units of CPE with Chaplain Sue Ellers-Hatley. Last year I giftedher your substack voice. You just get better with age! Blessings to you in 2025. The journey continues: walk and shine in the light!

So good. My wife has been corresponding with prisoners for over 5 years. My first pastoral experience was visiting a young man in the Shelby County jail in Memphis, an eye-opening moment. Thanks for the glimmer.

What a beautiful article and opportunity! I have just reached out to Bishop Shanahan who was a Chaplain Candidate, 2nd Lieutenant with me in 1986! Thank you for that serendipitous opportunity, Angela. Blessings to you and your family this holiday season and God’s strength and perseverance as you fight the good fight in 2025!

This is my favorite substack post of the year!

I'm biased, because I'm a CPE Supervisor, but I am so grateful for your words. Your reporting and reflection on what a transformative experience CPE can be and the importance of spiritual caregiving is inspiring. Thank you for sharing these precious stories with the world.
