I admire your bravery in asking fellow Christians to take down their Trump signs. Wow! I am an Evangelical who is not a Trumper. It's a long story, but God moved us out of a church dominated by Trumpers into an amazing non-denominational church whose pastors and elders are not Trump fans at all. I have a burden for the church as a whole. We need revival. Conservative churches and liberal churches a like. We need a revival of deep commitment to the whole gospel, the personal gospel of evangelism, including personal repentance and the social gospel of justice, mercy and caring for the least of these in society. Evangelicals need a revival of commitment to the values and teachings of Jesus. We need more of John Wesley's teaching to work as hard as you can, make as much as you can and give as much as you can, with emphasis on the latter! We need to repent of our idols of comfort, money, human hero worship, power, prestige and false religiosity. I plan to write an article on cultural Christianity vs. Biblical Christianity in my "The Independent Evangelical" substack column. Thanks for your courage!

I am so grateful that you courageously continue to speak out against the cancer that is overtaking this nation. Keep the faith and know that you and your family continue to be in my prayers.

Hi Angela, how good to read that you have not lost your faith in people. That you continue to walk with Jesus in your heart and your actions, despite all resistance to your beliefs. You are in my thoughts a lot, I pray for you...🙏🏼

It saddens me that your rural congregation turned their back on you and did not/would not hear your words calling them back to Jesus. I was born and raised in a small midwestern town. I fear that if I returned to my home church, the reaction would be the same. I've been a free subscriber, but the excerpt from your book in today's letter finally pushed me to get a paid subscription. Thank you for the work you do.

Hi Jan! Thank you for your support.

And I should be clear - the church I served was full of amazing people, many of whom I keep up with today. We went through Covid and George Floyd together, and I learned a lot from them. Their faith and witness is a powerful one, and as you read the next two sections, you’ll learn more about some of those folks.

When I wrote this section, indeed, it was a difficult time, especially with some people who left the church. But overall, my experience as a rural pastor and the people I met doing that - is something I greatly appreciate and shaped my life in an important way. Hugs.

Thank you so much for your response. I'm glad your overall experience there was a good one. The power of the Holy Spirit was indeed working there during those very trying times.
