Sunday Stretch: Vol. 6
Start off your week with a grounded take on Bible, prayer, the world, and your life ...
Thanks for joining in for Week 6 of the Sunday Stretch: where I’ll break down some weekly Bible passages, share prayer and prayer requests with you and for this community as well as the broader world.
This week I’m going to share something a little bit different. I am traveling this weekend to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fayetteville, Ark., where I will be preaching this morning and leading a forum on Christian Nationalism, and my recently re-released book, Red State Christians.
If you happen to be located near Fayetteville/NWA, I hope you join us! Service is at 10 a.m. with the forum to follow.
When Pastor Clint asked me to preach at Good Shepherd, he noted that their church is using the Women’s Lectionary, curated and written by the Rev. Dr. Wil Gafney, the Right Rev. Sam B. Hulsey Professor of Hebrew Bible at Brite Divinity School (located at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth).
I’ve been following Gafney’s work for about 15 years now, and she has always been ahead of her time - and ahead of me - for pushing my boundaries of how I see God and how I see myself. So this week, I’m going to share this Sunday’s readings from the Women’s Lectionary, as well as my typical brief reflection and questions to ponder. We’ll close with our usual prayers and requests. Don’t forget to keep sharing your prayer requests with me!
